The result is an exquisite gesture of surfaces connected directly or indirectly to the past in a continuous trace, crafting the ground floor with different spaces:
From one side we have the intimate and closed squares in between new/old buildings, in contrast of open areas and passages opened to the surroundings.
The simple solution is yet carefully detailed with well-marked accesses from all around the block, and well defined between comfortable spaces to stay or spaces of movement.
For this competition, our main goal was to obtain a concept design that could guarantee a quality urban space that could meet all the functional and spatial criteria required to create a new and modern segment of the city centre, while adding value to the wider urban area and providing a reminder of the historical development of the site. As so, the new Badel Block and its new identity with an urban sculpture that stretches the city into an exciting new meeting point, provide everyday an environmental quality space for its inhabitants and for the urban context of Zagreb
