Badel Block Concept
Distillery building, SE facade of Gorica factory building and „northern entrance wall“- are going to be reused, revealed and exposed to public. Block becomes exhibition space with three monochromatic exhibits on the colorful carpet. Ground is like a carpet, colorful pavement is background to exhibited elements and it also connects all open spaces inside the block and makes them more visible from the neighboring area.
The main idea is to enhance already existing character of the wider competition area and in that way to determi¬ne new urban structure and purpose for Badel Block, to make it „visible“ and to react with urban structure and city life in order to become the authentic place on the map of Zagreb.
We created mixed use sub-blocks with the aim to reshape and complete urban plots, redefining the general urban form in a clear distinction between void and construction. New structures, offering 64 000m2 spatial capacities for various facilities, are introduced combining two criteria:
-To be adequate framework for industrial heritage exhibition
-To fit into existing surrounding:
Physically, considering urban morphology, pedestrian perspectives etc.
Functionally, e.g. residential to residential
To respond to city life, vivid and livelihood neighborhood
Neighboring livelihood we spill over into the Badel Block through number of open and closed public spaces of different characters situated in the biggest central area of the block. The amenities intended for the local community are numerous, such as cultural and civic center and lot of comfortable open and closed spaces for informal gatherings as pedestrian street, squares or cul¬tural center, library, sport facilities (bowling, table tennis, outdoor gym), coffee houses, restaurants etc.
