Opis

The site of Badel Block with its rich industrial heritage is one of tremendous character. It has enormous potential to be a major cultural and social player in the life of Zagreb and its inhabitants. As designers it is foremost our desire to honor and protect this character. We aim to do this not only through the careful preservation of these buildings, but also through the cultivation of this character and the giving of new life to these buildings.
Through sensitive design and the use of materiality, we hope to establish a new precedent for the building of a new Zagreb: one of quality and refinement, harking back to Croatia’s rich cultural history as expressed in the traditional city center. Located at the crossroads between the city’s historic cultural center and its industrial corridor, our design aims to marry the two. In addition to the development of residential and commercial space, at the heart of our design is an industrial design complex, comprised of a gallery space highlighting Zagreb’s past as a deader in industry, a library as a major resource for students of industrial design and citizens alike, a contemporary exhibition hall to display work being produced in Croatia today and workshops and studio space to support young designers and the future of Zagreb’s industry and design community.
