2 aspects of Badel site redevelopment which we think are crucial are: new urban value and preservation of architectural heritage. In our proposal we use the historical context as memory and witness but essentially to ‘’re-fabricate’’ urban tissue and social interactions and situations. Basically the old create the new.
The main concept of the proposal can be seen as the Moebius ribbon which loops to itself. Our proposition seats within the existing building on Badel site and it attached, re assemble the whole thing taking the shape of a ribbon.
The existing Factory and the 2 preserved facades set the frame of a new urban proposal, our intention is to keep the identity and the morphology of the block but to alter it, to create new spaces, new urban value which will give richness and fill what is missing in the neighborhood.
The proposal keep continuity with the surrounding but it progressively increase height in order to densify the site, that continuity integrate historical building within a sequence and it also use preserved façade as new element of the redevelopment complex.
We let the site porous to people and we also reinforce the axis with existing key areas such as the market and the Kvaternikov square, which are 2 main feature of the area, the new Badel block will become the third one in close relationship to this 2 important urban space.
